Craig was in the first group of PCV teachers to go to Tanganyika in 1963-5 and taught at an Upper Primary school north of Tukuyu in the Southern highlands. Over the next 18 years he worked off and on for over ten years for Peace Corps as a volunteer, recruiter, trainer on three different US based programs, in-country staff briefly in Kenya and for three years in Sierra Leone, and finally spent three years in PC/Washington's Office of Programming and Training as their first Water/sanitation sector specialist, 78-81. He spent the next 24 years working on USAID contracts dealing with water/sanitation and environmental health and had in country assignments in over 20 countries. In 1991, he was one of four people to help organize and found Friends of Tanzania in Washington, DC and have served on the board as an officer, director or committee member ever since. He is married to Pat Kelley, another founding FOT board member, and they have lived in Boulder, Colorado since 2007.
