Tom Katus

For 30 years, Tom has been President of TK Associates International leading a group of multi-cultural independent professionals in community, business, political and tourism development, international marketing, communications and fund raising. He is a founding FOT Board member from 1991 and now returns to the Board in 2014.

In 1961, Tom served in the first Peace Corps Volunteer group in Tanzania as an engineer-surveyor in Morogoro and remains a conversational Swahili speaker. Following that experience, from 1963-1973, Tom was Co-coordinator, Returned Peace Corps/VISTA Volunteers for McGovern-Shriver where he mobilized 5,000 volunteers nationally. He was selected as a National Trainer, U.S. Navy's Race Relations Team and was founding President/CEO, Volunteer Training Specialists, Inc. a multi-national corporation which trained more than 2,000 Peace Corps Volunteers.

From 1973-1983, Tom was Director, Western Office, Phelps Stokes Fund where he directed all PSF programs in the western United States and served as Co-Director of the Southern Africa Manpower Development Assistance Program (SAMDAP), which supported 243 African leaders and university students at 56 U. S. and African institutions. From 1984-1988, Tom was founding Regional Manager, African Development Foundation, responsible for the development and management of ADF's programs in 12 East African countries.

Mr. Katus was born and raised on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation and received his undergraduate education at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Civil Engineering and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a B.S. in Political Science. He completed graduate studies in International Administration and Political Behavior at UWM and UCLA.
