Volunteers- Organizations to Consider
|
The organizations listed below provided FOT with — among other
things — a brief summary of the organization, their volunteer needs
and skill levels required and general location of the project i.e.
town and region.
There is also information about the organization’s contact
person, and — when available — a website address. Note: When
contacting the organization the communication may sometimes be slow:
regular mail may be delayed, email can be great but power supplies
may fluctuate. Cell phones are better, and more common, than
landlines, but calling from
Tanzania to the US would be expensive.
Although some of us at Friends of Tanzania may know some or all
of the listed organizations, we do not endorse any, and take no
responsibility for your choice and experience.
Please note: We have just started listing
organizations which offer volunteer opportunities and we expect to
post more over the next few months. For anyone wanting to list their
opportunity, contact

| Nianjema Secondary and
High School |
|
Nianjema Secondary and High School was
founded in 2000 and continues to be managed by former Peace
Corps Volunteer Charlie Sloan. The school has grown from 90
students, 7 teachers and 8 buildings, to 300 students, 23
teachers and 22 buildings, including a computer lab, over
7,000 library books, 2 student dormitories and 9 staff houses.
Construction is underway to build the high school complex,
more dormitories and staff houses. Nianjema also offers
sports, the arts, and debate programs. As the government
schools take the top students, our goal is to educate those
who are left behind.

located in Bagamoyo, which is considered a resort town, only
about 50 miles north of Dar es Salaam on the Indian Ocean.
Volunteer Opportunities available:
Teachers are needed to give supplemental support

October and November an intensive English course is offered to
incoming students. A commitment of a minimum of one month is

included.
